International Hellenic University

The International University of Greece (DIPAE), based in Thessaloniki, based on law 4610/2019 (Government Gazette 70 / t.A ‘/ 07-05-2019), was organized and operates as a University, consisting of the synergies of the International University of Greece with the former Alexandreio Technological Educational Institution of Thessaloniki (ATEI of Thessaloniki), with the former Technological Educational Institution of Central Macedonia (TEI of Central Macedonia) and the former Technological Educational Foundation of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (TEI of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace). The main campus is located at two junctions in the city of Thessaloniki and has facilities, educational and administrative, in a total of eight cities. It is the only public university in the country, which offers study programs in English. There are a total of 7 Faculties with 34 Departments in subjects and cognitive fields that meet the requirements of a modern university. At DI.PA.E. It includes a University Center for International Programs based in Thessaloniki and intended to provide higher education, in a foreign language, to Greeks and foreigners with 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle study programs. In addition, it includes more than 40 institutionalized laboratories and offers more than 50 Postgraduate Programs, some of which are interdepartmental or interdepartmental, while 22 of them are offered in English. There is still a number of collaborations with universities and research centers in Greece and abroad and memoranda of cooperation have been signed with academic and social institutions that strengthen its position in both the Greek higher education and the European. The research activity of the institution is important and with a presence in all bodies, with special emphasis on national and European financial frameworks. Both active and integrated research activities include a number of NSRF projects and INTERREG transnational collaborations as well as European contexts, such as HORIZON 2020 and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions.

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, which is mainly involved in the proposal, has expertise in the field of automation, technology, electronics, industrial informatics, systems engineering and robotics. It was founded in 2019 by law 4610/2019 by merging Department of Automation Engineering with the Department of Automotive Engineering and accumulates the experience of the two Departments but mainly that of Automation. Automation Engineering Department was founded in 1989, following the needs of industry and the requirements of science for specialization in this field. The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management has extensive experience in research and development projects with experienced and competent scientific staff. In addition, the Department of Production Engineering and Management has scientific staff from many different scientific fields related to the project that could help in the implementation of the project.

The Laboratory of Radiological Measurements has great experience in the field of project. It is adequately equipped with a laboratory spectroscopy system with an HPGe detector of relative efficiency of 9%, a Lucas Cell radon measurement system, and two low-cost and sensitive semiconductor detectors with reduced accuracy. It also has a Geiger-Müller detector, which measures the total external active dose with a resolution of 10 nSv / h. as well as all the necessary peripherals that will ensure adequate project support. During the project’s implementation a new portable HPGe gamma spectrometry system and a handheld NaI(Tl) 3’’X3’’ were bought

Greek Atomic Energy Commission

The Greek Atomic Energy Commission (EEAE) is the national regulatory authority, competent for the control, regulation and supervision in the fields of nuclear energy, nuclear technology, radiological and nuclear safety and radiation protection. EEAE is supervised by the Minister of Development and Investments. 

The mission, the vision and the values embraced by EEAE determine the decisions made by its management and guide its personnel when exercising their duties.

The protection of the public, the workers and the environment from ionizing radiation and artificially produced non-ionizing radiation.

To be a modern regulatory authority, in the areas of radiation protection, radiological and nuclear safety, enjoying trustfulness and recognition nationally and internationally, and a model public service fulfilling its tasks responsibly.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) was founded in 1925 and is the largest Higher Education Institution in Greece with 13 faculties and a total of 42 departments. About 72,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students are currently studying at the Aristotle University. In the last three years, 985 researchers at AUTh have provided educational and research services in collaboration with a total of 7263 external scientific collaborators for the implementation of 3151 projects of international, European and national research as well as technological development.

The contribution of AUTh to the project will be made by the Laboratory of Nuclear Technology (http://nestoras.ee.auth.gr) of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The staff of the laboratory (1 teacher, 1 associate professor, 1 lecturer) deals with the following 2 subjects:

Protection and Rescue Directorate

The Protection and Rescue Directorate (PRD) was established by the Law on Protection and Rescue ant its work started in 2005 is an independent state body.  Among others it is responsible for Protection and Rescue of people, the environment, material goods, etc. It is well equipped and it participates in ARGOS consortium.

Protection and Rescue Directorate is an independent governmental organization since 2005. Previously, it was part of Ministry of Defence (Civil Protection Sector). The Directorate is consisted of one central office located in Skopje, of 4 sections with 11 departments, 4 independent departments and 35 regional departments for protection and rescue, covering the overall territory of the state. From 2010 one new Department for special aerial fire fighting services has been established.

PRD is the national disaster management authority with responsibility in prevention, preparedness, response and early recovery. The essence of the system for rescue and protection is represented with the measures, units and headquarters for rescue and protection. PRD units according to the Law on rescue and protection can be national and local. In the national rescue and protection units we have the employees of the PRD, members of the Fast response teams and the 14 biggest fire fighting stations in the country. In real time situation they can all be activated by decision of the Director of the PRD which is commandeer of the National HQ for rescue and protection. PRD units can be also used for international disaster management operations. Since 2012 Republic of North Macedonia via PRD is member country of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism. It is a platform that unites EU member states, EEA countries, EU candidate countries and potential candidates in their efforts for enhancing disaster management in general on EU and national level. International organizations such as the United Nations, the EU and NATO have set the standard for cooperation between countries in the area of protection and rescue from natural and other disasters. Protection and Rescue Directorate is actively involved in the work of these organizations by participating in conferences, seminars Courses and exercises

Mechanical Faculty of Saint Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje

The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM) is a public higher educational institution and the first state university in the Republic of North Macedonia. UKIM is comprised of 23 faculties, 5 research institutes and 4 public scientific institutions. UKIM offers high-standard teaching and research in all scientific fields – natural sciences and mathematics, technical and technological sciences, medical sciences and health, biotechnology sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts. Nowadays, over 60.000 domestic and foreign students are following the first, second and third cycle studies. Every year there are more than 10.000 students who are enrolled in all three cycles of the university, making UKIM the biggest University in the country in terms of student numbers. Over 3.100 teaching, research, associate, as well as administrative staff participate in the realization of the teaching and scientific process. The University has produced around 150.000 graduated high professional staff; 10.000 candidates obtained Master’s and Specialist’s degree and around 3.000 candidates obtained the doctoral degree in all teaching and scientific fields. All study programs in all three cycles of studies (536) are adapted to the Bologna process. UKIM has successfully completed the fourth external evaluation, carried out by an expert’s team nominated by the European University Association.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – Skopje (FME) at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM) has been growing and developing for more than five and a half decades. Since its beginnings in 1959, when it was a part of a section within the then Technical Faculty, and all the way up to now when it is an autonomous faculty, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – Skopje has continued to develop its unique features based on the visions of its founders. At the same time, FME turns to its rich tradition and experience over the years in order to consolidate its position and grab the including the principles of the Bologna Process and successfully participates in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The Faculty made a comprehensive revision and modernization of its curricula in 2012 and again in 2016, in order to fully incorporate these protocols as well as the latest trends in science and the study of mechanical engineering. The Faculty has six institutes and one department: Institute of Production Engineering and Management, with five  laboratories; Institute for Machine Structures, Institute for Mechanical Machines and Vehicles, with three laboratories; Institute of Thermal Engineering, with five laboratories; Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Automation, with two laboratories; Institute for Welding and Welded Structures, with four laboratories; Institute of Mechanics with one laboratory; and Department of Mathematics and Informatics. The institutes are further organized into Departments and Laboratories. Each institute has its own manager, who is responsible for the work of the institute and for the high level of academic and professional contribution of all its members.

Engineering Institution

The initiative for constituting an Engineering Institution (EI) was born immediately after the liberation after the Second World War. The Association of Engineers and Technicians of North Macedonia was founded in May 1945

The organizational structure of the Association of Engineers and Technicians of North Macedonia at that time was the following:

• Local subsidiaries – as basic units, and

• Professional sections for specific vocational questions which in 1951 become republic professional associations of engineers and technicians.

In 1960 the republic professional associations of engineers and technicians became republic professional confederations of engineers and technicians. The name of the association changed again in 1995 when it became Institution of engineering scientific associations and organizations and this name lasted until 1999 when it changed into Engineering Institution of North Macedonia
